Frequently asked questions

This page answers questions readers bring to Russell's 1926 chart. Each answer states our finding first, then points to the evidence.

Every verdict cited here attaches to a claim, never to a person. The scoreboard holds the full evidence for each verdict. Unless noted, web sources were retrieved on 2026-09-11.

Did The Universal One predict deuterium and tritium?

No. The 1926 text does not contain the words deuterium, tritium, heavy hydrogen, or isotope. We searched two independent scans for 13 term variants. Every count was zero. We then read the key pages at full resolution.

The book's coined gases near hydrogen are starred as undiscovered, with blank mass columns. The one it describes by weight, Hydron, is "much lighter" than hydrogen (printed p. 100). Deuterium and tritium are heavier forms of hydrogen. The text describes no substance as a heavier form of hydrogen.

The prediction story traces to Russell's own later correspondence. The community's journal reprints his letter asserting the claim (Fulcrum, v6n1, May 1998).

Did the chart predict plutonium and neptunium?

The chart prints two coined tones after uranium: Uridium and Urium. Their slots fall where elements 93 and 94 sit today. Neptunium and plutonium filled those positions in 1940.

The chart states nothing else about them. Their mass, melting-point, and property cells are blank. Mendeleev's gap predictions carried numbers: weight, density, oxide chemistry. Measurement confirmed those within 17 years. Russell's two post-uranium slots carry no numbers to confirm.

The scoreboard records the slot fact and weighs it: entry V019. Russell asserted priority himself, in the letter cited above (Fulcrum, v6n1, May 1998). The claim also appears on USP's current timeline (https://www.philosophy.org/historical-timeline).

Did science later find the elements Russell's stars "located"?

The chart's legend reads: "STARS INDICATE UNDISCOVERED ELEMENTS LOCATED BY THE AUTHOR." We reconciled every printed tone against the modern table.

The tally: 77 tones match real elements, 5 are misplaced, 3 are renamed, and 51 correspond to no known element. One novel placement was later confirmed. The chart marks an unnamed element before radium, where francium was found in 1939. That verdict is "confirmed": scoreboard entry V003. The coined names themselves are weighed in entry V013.

One confirmed placement stands beside 51 that nothing has filled in a century. The methods page describes the reconciliation procedure and its error bounds.

Does the chart show the true frequencies of the elements?

The chart prints no frequency values. The word "frequency" does not occur anywhere in the 1926 book. We searched the full scanned text; the count is zero. "Hertz" and "cycles per second" also score zero.

Numbers such as "Hydrogen at 20.6 Hz" come from recent web posts, not from Russell (example: https://medium.com/@abundance10000/mastering-hydrogen-the-core-element-of-creation-a-guide-based-on-walter-russells-periodic-table-4b7570071d09). An AI-generated summary in a public repository gives "40.5 Hz" instead (https://github.com/bquast/Walter-Russell-Periodic-Table). The two numbers do not agree with each other. Neither appears in the chart or the book.

Russell assigned qualitative tones and colours, without units. The scoreboard marks those assignments unfalsifiable: entry V002.

Did Russell give each element a tone and a colour?

Yes, as qualitative assignments. The 1926 text pairs elements with tones and colour positions. It states no measurable rule that an instrument could test.

Where the system meets a measurement, the text itself concedes a conflict. It calls the yellow D line of sodium the "most outstanding of these apparent contradictions" and offers an octave-based reply.

The scoreboard marks the tone-and-colour system unfalsifiable: entry V002. That verdict is neither praise nor blame. It records that no experiment can decide the claim. The methods page defines the verdict scale.

Is the modern table missing three octaves before hydrogen?

The chart places three octaves of coined elements before hydrogen: 24 tones, from Alphanon to Boston. The 1926 tables print no atomic mass and no melting point for any of them (printed p. 92). None has been observed since.

Atomic number counts protons. Hydrogen has one. An element before hydrogen would need a nuclear charge below one. The measured table runs from hydrogen (1) to oganesson (118), with no vacancy below one (IUPAC, https://iupac.org/what-we-do/periodic-table-of-elements/).

Did modern spiral periodic tables adopt Russell's chart?

No documented line runs from Russell's chart to any modern spiral table. The best-known modern spiral is Robert Harrison's. A visitor raised Russell there in 2012. Harrison replied on the record: "Walter Russell's PT was not an inspiration for my table" (https://spiralperiodictable.com/, comment reply #858, 2012-03-26; archived at https://web.archive.org/web/20260911154603/https://spiralperiodictable.com/).

Harrison's stated foundation is Deming's 1923 textbook table. His site credits Chancourtois, Mendeleev, Deming, Janet, and Benfey. Helical layouts also predate Russell: de Chancourtois published a helix of the elements in 1862.

Did the American Academy of Sciences give Russell a doctorate in 1941?

USP's published timeline states that "The American Academy of Sciences confers a doctorate to Walter Russell" in 1941 (https://www.philosophy.org/historical-timeline). We looked for the awarding body. A degree-granting institution of that name, active in 1941, does not appear in any registry we searched.

The earliest statements of the claim we can locate are in the community's own journal (Fulcrum, v2n3, February 1994, p. 31; v6n3, December 1998). The 1998 version ties the doctorate to the element predictions examined above.

We invite correction. A period document from this body would change this answer, and we would publish it.

Did Tesla tell Russell to seal his knowledge for 1,000 years?

The story appears in the movement's literature and in many videos. The movement's own archive contains no document of it.

In 1996, the community journal printed the only archived Russell–Tesla material: two 1954–55 letters about a reprinted Tesla book. The editor wrote that this "is the only item in the archives that shows any trace" of the association (Fulcrum, V4N3, journal p. 16). He asked readers for anything more. The letters say nothing about sealing, burying, or withholding knowledge.

Did NORAD validate Russell's device?

No independent record supports the account. The story of NORAD officers visiting Swannanoa is proponent-sourced. It appears on USP's timeline and in a 1992 conference paper. That paper's citation for it points to one place: USP's own archives.

Timing matters here. In November 1958, Walter and Lao Russell conceded in writing that the coil test showed no advantage. The NORAD account begins in fall 1959 and runs to 1961. The claimed validation postdates the signed concession by ten months to nearly three years.

Does the chart's best-known promoter hold 97 patents?

Terrence Howard stated on The Joe Rogan Experience #2152, May 2024, that he holds 97 patents (transcript: https://podcasts.happyscribe.com/the-joe-rogan-experience/2152-terrence-howard). United States records list 35 granted patents naming T. Dashon Howard as inventor: 11 utility and 24 design (Google Patents, https://patents.google.com/, counts as of 2026-09-11). A patent count says nothing about the chart either way. We include it because readers ask.

Has Russell's chart been replicated or peer reviewed?

We find no peer-reviewed replication of any claim from the chart or the 1926 book. The Department of Energy's OSTI database returns zero records for this work (https://www.osti.gov/).

Two tests by sympathetic parties are on record. Both returned negatives. The 1958 Alco Valve coil test measured no advantage for the Russell design (https://dube.walterrussellarchive.org/). USP's own timeline records: "Walter Russell is unable to repeat his transmutation experiment while at Swannanoa in the 1950's, according to scientist Dr. Shigeo Okubo" (https://www.philosophy.org/historical-timeline).

Did Russell split water into other substances with frequencies?

No frequency appears anywhere in the 1926 text. The word itself scores zero hits in the full scanned book. The frequency language is a modern attachment.

The story descends from Russell's own account, given thirty-one years later. In a letter of 24 November 1958, Walter and Lao Russell wrote that work at Westinghouse Laboratories had made it possible to change "six cubic centimeters of water into seventeen other 'substances'." USP first published that letter in The Fulcrum, Vol. 4 No. 3 (October 1996), journal page 21. No laboratory record of the experiment survives, and the letter itself places the work "long ago". The community's own record adds the null above: the experiment could not be repeated at Swannanoa, per Dr. Okubo.

Did Russell show that gravity is an electric effect?

The 1926 book presents gravitation and radiation as opposed phases of one electric process. It offers the doctrine as cosmology, without a quantitative law an instrument could test.

One follower-era document did attach a number to "gravity power." In a letter of October 1958, published in The Fulcrum, Vol. 5 No. 1 (May 1997), journal page 87, Russell predicted in writing, in advance, a 40% to 60% advantage for his coil design.
